Andrew Hillhouse, Adrift on the Coral Sea, 2 x 120cm x 120cm, acrylic on canvas, 2026
Sat 28 Mar 10.30am

Textured Skyscapes

Palette painting workshop with exhibiting artist Andrew Hillhouse.

In this acrylic painting workshop, participants will explore colour and texture, using palette knives to create their own atmospheric interpretation of the sky; whether bright, moody, serene, stormy, hopeful, or entirely imagined.

Through colour mixing, expressive mark‑making, and the surprising, freeing effects of palette knives, everyone will have the chance to create a sky that is uniquely their own painted on a 30x30cm canvas.

No experience needed — just curiosity, a willingness to experiment, and the joy of making something that reflects the world as you see it.

*Workshop will include 30-minute break for lunch. Catered lunch not included. Tea/Coffee biscuits provided.

About the Artist

Andrew’s exhibition There is Another Sky, was inspired by the Emily Dickinson poem of the same title. Andrew’s paintings are abstract impressions of the natural environment, designed to evoke emotional responses and feature highly textured paint that capture moments or fragments of memory in a pixilated, pointillist style.

Andrew Hillhouse is a contemporary artist based in the hinterland of Eumundi, Queensland. His work is deeply influenced by the natural environment and farmland surrounding his studio.

With a lifelong passion for painting and drawing, Hillhouse’s artistic journey is enriched by his formal training as an architect, providing him with a structured perspective on design and art.
