Masterclass Series 2021
EN PLEIN AIR – YOUR LANGUAGE
with Nicola Moss
Saturday 16 October, 10am – 3pm
$120 including materials and light lunch
Join artist Nicola Moss to create an idiosyncratic response to place that expands over a suite of small images and drawings on paper. Three versatile processes – frottage, mono-print and paper cutting will be explored to develop abstract or realistic forms. Working outdoors, each participant will engage their sensory responses to the landscape and feeling of place. Participants can expect to walk away with techniques, ideas and a suite of drawn responses for expanding their own distinct visual language or storytelling. Exploration may be a starting point or fresh look for further development in each artist’s practice.

About the Artist
Nicola Moss is a visual artist making fine art with paper. Driven by a burning question – What is sustainability? Moss engages people in considering the value of healthy environment. Residencies in 2017 at Youkobo Art Space, Tokyo and ARNA, Sweden, initiated cross-cultural exchange and international engagement with communities in the discussion of local/global green space issues. Framing nature as a source rather than a resource, the artist highlights how intrinsic sustainable green spaces are to our well-being, both physical and mental. Nicola Moss has exhibited throughout Australia; in Japan, Sweden and the USA. Moss was awarded the Moreton Bay Region Art Award (2012) and in 2019 was selected to participate in the artist in residence program at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica, Venice. She has been a finalist in numerous awards including the John Leslie Art Prize, Fisher’s Ghost Art Award, the STILL: National Still Life Award, Gold Coast Art Prize, Geelong Contemporary Art Award, Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize, Libris Awards and the Sunshine Coast Art Prize. Her work is held in several collections. Nicola Moss is represented by Arthouse Gallery Sydney
