Join us for a unique masterclass led by proud Yankuntjatjarra and Wirangu artist and educator, Shelley Ware. Learn the traditional art of basket weaving as Shelley guides you through the process of creating raffia baskets, demonstrating how to make a starter a circle and weaving techniques and patterns so you can continue to make baskets in your own time

Spend the day connecting with nature on Kabi Kabi Country, all while respectfully acknowledging traditional custodians. Shelley will share the history of basketweaving and stories from her life as an Aboriginal woman. Leave with some First Nations history, knowledge, and a completed basket to enjoy at home.

About the Artist

Shelley Ware is a proud Yankunytjatjara and Wirangu woman from Tandanya/Adelaide who currently lives in Naarm/Melbourne. She is a highly regarded AFL media presenter with over two decades of experience and is well known for her time on NITV’s Marngrook football show. Shelley is a teacher, educator, artist, author, well-sought-after facilitator, MC and keynote speaker who is passionate about helping educators embed First Nations history and knowledge into their everyday curriculum.

Other important information

Please arrive 10 minutes early to avoid late starts and allowing time to find an all-day carpark.

Feel free to stop by one of the local cafes in town or at the marina for a coffee on the way as there will be no morning tea break to allow for as much workshop focussed time as possible.

This Masterclass will take place outside the gallery under marquees. Please wear weather appropriate clothing.
