Lyn McCrea Memorial Drawing Prize 2020

1 August to 4 October 2020

Noosa Regional Gallery invited contemporary Australian artists to submit works for entry into the Lyn McCrea Memorial Drawing Prize 2020, dedicated to the memory of the late Lyn McCrea (1944 – 2015); contemporary visual artist, art educator and art collector.

The Lyn McCrea Memorial Drawing Prize was established by John McCrea in 2015 to honour Lyn’s passion for drawing as fundamental to visual arts practice. The prize is a national award held annually and is open to all practicing Australian contemporary artists. The aim of the prize is to promote excellence in contemporary Australian drawing.

“2020 has seen unprecedented changes to the ways in which we all live and work. Artists have been particularly hard hit, with much of their already precarious work being cancelled and the venues they rely upon being closed to the public. In an effort to continue to provide opportunities to artists in these difficult times, Noosa Regional Gallery has decided to go ahead with the Lyn McCrea Memorial Drawing Prize in 2020, albeit exclusively online. We recognise that the experience of an art work in person cannot be captured on a screen, however we hope that making this opportunity available in some form is better than not going ahead with the prize at all. In a further effort to increase access we have also made entry free in 2020.”
