Experimenta Emergence: National Tour of Media Arts
14 jun – 17 Aug 2025
Experimenta Emergence presents the work of contemporary artists who explore emerging societal and environmental changes and offer other perspectives, imagined possibilities and directions.
At a time when the unknown and maybe the unknowable is building like a wave, these artists encourage us to question our shifting realities. What are the forces shaping our worlds? How might we encounter, counter or adapt to the transformations of the human and more-than-human world we are part of? Can we alter current trajectories?
The art works these Australian and international artists have created – virtual realities, participatory works, and speculative fictions – will provoke you to ask questions about where we, individually and collectively, are going … and where we might want to go.

About Experimenta
Experimenta is Australia’s leading organisation dedicated to commissioning, exhibiting and touring contemporary art driven by ideas and shaped by technology. We believe our exploration today through art and technology, embeds creativity at the inception of the thinking process. We remove boundaries between art and technology, creating pathways for collaboration, audience engagement and artist development. In the age of technological acceleration, Experimenta’s role is vital to understanding what it is to be human. Our programs, exhibitions, and events encourage the exploration of contemporary issues through visual arts engagement.
Experimenta has a global reputation for high-quality curated programming. We commission new work from some of the world’s most adventurous contemporary artists working at the periphery of convention: the intersection of art, technology, and society. Experimenta fearlessly supports ambitious projects and complex ideas, offering audiences multiple entry points to access and experience these. We build support materials, programs and platforms through talks, online content, and experiences.
Since 2003, the cornerstone of Experimenta’s program has been its touring program of media art. Our 8 national tours have visited more than 45 galleries with an in-person audience of over 1.5 million people across Australia. The tours have presented 202 artworks to regional and metropolitan audiences, and commissioned more than 65 artists to develop and exhibit new installations, performances, sound, and video work. Experimenta Emergence is Experimenta’s 9th National Tour.
Experimenta Emergence is a timely exhibition featuring 13 artworks by leading Australian and international artists across diverse of art forms, including screen-based works, installations, robotics, participatory and generative art. The exhibition intertwines the work of contemporary artists who critically examine our world, reflecting on how we might navigate emerging societal dynamics and environmental changes.
The national tour takes place from 2025 to 2027, scheduled to visit Noosa Regional Gallery, Tewantin (QLD); NERAM, Armidale (NSW); The Lock-Up, Newcastle (NSW); Plimsoll Gallery UTAS, Hobart (TAS); and Pinnnacles Gallery, Townville (QLD), with more venues to come.
