artful journeys for dementia wellness
Starting June 2024
A social and creative program that engages participants through artmaking and conversation, designed for people living with dementia at any stage in their lives, and their support network. No prior experience or skills in art are necessary to attend.
The sessions will involve a guided conversation focussing on an artwork and related artmaking activities. The relaxed environment and small group size will encourage casual conversations about art and support interpretation and contribution from the participants.
Noosa Regional Gallery aims to support individuals living with dementia and their care partners through this program to create new connections and life-enriching experiences through contemporary art.
The program will be offered in 4 – 6 week blocks throughout the year offering sessions that are open to the public and separate sessions for local residential care facilities.
The free program will be delivered by a trained artist /educator and supported by Gallery volunteers.
The key benefits of the activities are:
- exercising individual agency
- building a sense of connection
- encouraging conversation
- encouraging memory recall
- increasing confidence
- using motor skills
- providing stimulation.
